Cherishing Every Magical Moment in Alaska.

A lifetime memory that we never thought we’d get to have.” – Brandon Ungricht

From Mickey to Glaciers: A Family Adventure to Alaska.

Wonder. Gratitude. Memories.

Meet Hannah Ungricht.

Finding light in love, even through ALS.

The date I was diagnosed with ALS, at age 39, and the world changed for me and my family. Telling my 13 year old daughter was devastating. And realizing my 5 year old son would grow up without me is even harder to comprehend. And seeing the pain in my husband of 22 years’ eyes was heartbreaking.

There are many pieces of this journey that make me feel unrecognizable. This wheelchair. The loss of muscles. The twitches and tremors. Laughter that takes more effort to exert. The necessary weight gain and the struggles to breathe every moment. I feel like my body isn’t my own anymore. I look in the mirror and don’t recognize what is before me. This body is just a vessel for my Spirit, I know that. An earthly entity. The struggles and weaknesses are only for this time I have on earth. I believe I will be made whole again once my time here has ended, which will be sooner than we had hoped as my form of the disease is not a slow progressing one.

We could go on forever about the pain and changes and losses we encounter from ALS, but our family chooses to look for the positives. That is not easy, but has become a necessity for our everyday survival. We have grown closer as a family, been able to go on trips and have experiences we always said we would do “someday”. Too many “somedays” pass when we should be living today! Don’t put off for tomorrow, what you can (and should) do today. Spend time with your family and close friends. Go on that trip you always said you would.

Thankfully, Tossin’ Away ALS was able to send us on one of my dream trips and we cruised away to Alaska. Making memories has become our sole priority moving forward. You’ll never regret spending time with the ones you love.
